Spring has finally come even if the miles of snow drifts made it seem like it never would! Spring makes me think of flowers and often it means weddings and bridal showers.
Are you a bride to be? Or perhaps you are in charge of the shower and don't know what to do? I can help! As the resident crafty one around these parts I've made more shower decorations and favors than most, let me tell you about a couple.
One of my favorite shower favors, was also part of the decorations, so double duty which I always think is better! I created a series of these potted flowers. Each one unique in many ways. I scoured all the quotes on Love and Marriage Google had to offer, which was as many as you would imagine. Once I had enough quotes for all the pots, I started the painting. I started with a base coat of white, so I could add the quotes in silver. Most of the pots ended up with one that was really sappy and one that was more funny. Because lets be real marriage an't all roses and love songs, so a sense of humor helps along the way.
After all the quotes were done and dry I had a little fun dressing them up in the colors of the wedding. Each one got a blue and a green ribbon, but no two were the same, just like marriages. After the ribbon I just had to "plant" the flowers. I wanted to use real hydrangeas but alas they weren't in season yet.
The other wedding item I wanted to tell you about is the card box I made for a friends fall wedding. My friend asked me if I would make her something for people to put cards in, something better than a plain basket. She wanted something that would look nice among all the pretty wedding presents on the gift table. Other than that she gave me free reign, 10+ yrs of friendship does have it's perks. I immediately knew that I wanted some kind of tiered cake effect. So I set out to make a hollow cake, that could hold all the cards they would receive on the big day. The "cake" was made from plain hat boxes and heart shaped boxes. There was much cutting and gluing and tweaking. Then the painting, and repainting and adding flowers. In the end it all worked. It also got a lot of interest at the reception, which was fun for me to get to hear.
Everyone talks about wanting to have a unique wedding, but there are only so many ways to change the ceremony or the plan for the reception, they are called traditions for a reason. BUT you can add you own spin to things, you own personal touches by having some of the items custom made for you, and that's where I come in, I'd love to help you add you own touch to your very special day.
